I think you have to connect the modem and router first, then connect your switch to the router to get internet connectivity to the 5 Ethernet ports. Then any internet capable device you connect to your switch ports should be able to get internet connection. By no means I am a tech guy but just a highly informed consumer who do a lot of DIY projects at home. Hope this helps.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You need a router between the modem and switch. Generally you are only getting 1 public IP address and it’s dynamic.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You have your gear plugged in the wrong order - it should go modem => router => switch => XBox. Your cable provider is only giving you one IP address; the whole point of the router is to share that single public IP address with all the devices on your home network. Plugged in the way you describe, your XBox won't ever be assigned an address and might as well not be connected at all - but if you connect things in the order I described, it should all work just fine.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You must connect Modem --> Router--> Switch. I'm not really sure why you're using a switch, though. Do you not have enough ports on your router?
