Hi Danno, The other ethernet port can be utilized if you have an additional IP address subscription from your internet service provider. If that is the case you can connect a separate router or an ethernet devices to get the public IP address from your ISP

If your internet provider has the option you can request a 2nd IP address which would be needed to use both ports. I had this modem. Only one port worked for your basic home set up. I did add an 8 port switch to connect to this modem and that worked great for having additional ethernet connections.
