no. if your TV has a slot for the ops cable then you can use than just have to set it up with you tv. if if you want to have the sound from the game in your head set for playing games such as call of duty and other shooter that have foot steps focus this device is great for that . but there are other optical products that are out there that do the same thing just like the insignia HDMI audio Extractor. but it all come down to price.
