QuestionCan I connect the two devices with an ethernet cable? I read on the ASUS website that you can, but it was not clear to me if that meant conect the base station and the satellite, or connect two base stations.

- Answer Yes, you can use a hardwired Ethernet cable instead of WiFi for the "backhaul" connection. The two routers are identical. The only distinction between the "base station" and "satellite" is that when you configure them, you designate one as the main router and the other as the "node". The main router will be the one that is connected to your incoming Internet/WAN feed, the other will be the node. I have mine setup this way and it works very well. Using hardwired Ethernet is much faster than WiFi, plus you get to use that 3rd WiFi band for 5ghz client devices.

QuestionI have an ASUS AC5300. Would these 2 work with my router to create AIMesh? With that set up, would that eliminate drop in my WifI calling? The most important issue for me is to avoid drop calls duo to drop in my iPhone wifi calling when I switch routers.

Questionhow many devices can use the 2.4ghz frequency at the same time. Think security cameras, smart home devices, etc? I have an r7800 now and it seems I have run out of 2.4 ghz bandwidth and get dropped connections multiple times a day now.

- Answer I can't give you an exact number... But I can tell you I constantly have anywhere from 20 to 30 different devices all running on the 2.4 band ...never had any issues

- Answer Yes, as long as your AT&T modem isn't also working as your router. My At&T service had a combo modem/router.

- Answer Yes. You can use all ports on the router, or leave the WAN open for wireless AiMesh. Wired WAN is recommended if you have a lot of devices. Wireless AiMesh will take up one of the bands entirely for backhaul on both routers. I also recommend Ethernet connection for any primary connections like bridges, home security, or work computers. Though they are good routers individually, I use them as wired nodes with my ax11000, axe11000, and ax89x. Any of the USB ports, or all ports, can be used in the network. Printers, NAS, camera storage drives, etc.

QuestionHow many wireless devices can this setup handle? Its literally not specified anywhere that I can find yet anyone with many smart devises would probably be interested in this tiny tidbit of information... Does Asus actually specify this anywhere?

- Answer Sky is the limit? Each ASUS router is rated for 50 connections. You can add as many nodes as you want with wired backhaul. The two router pack will handle 100 connections pretty easily.

QuestionI have 2 Asus RTAX86U, and each is connected to a different ISP. So, I have redundant internet for my home office. Can I split these up and run them independently, one with each Asus router using them on two separate networks?

- Answer For sure, though kind of a headache to run to independent networks through the house. You could use an ax89x and combine your ISP connections into a single home network. I suggest automatic routing with failover to reduce any downtime, but the ax89x is also capable of aggregate for faster speed. These ax6100 are independent routers in the two pack. You can use them on two separate networks as two independent base stations, two satellites to one network, one satellite each on two networks, etc.

QuestionI have a 1700sqft L shaped house. Is this unit overkill for the size of my house or just right? Right now I have a Linksys Velop 3 node system using WIFI backhaul and not getting consistent speed or service. Should I just hard wire them?

- Answer Depends, square footage of coverage is only really useful in an office or warehouse. In other wards, clear line of site and no obstructions. Walls, multi-level buildings with subfloors and ceilings, furniture, fixtures, pipes, electric lines, appliances, etc are all obstacles. Anything with metal or wood materials more than a couple inches thick will obstruct Wi-Fi signals. Ethernet wired backhaul from nodes to base is always best unless you can shine a flashlight or laser pointer from one satellite to the next. Which if you can see the node from the base station, might as well wire it in to free up a wireless band.
