A:Answer16gb is dual channel. One is 8gb soldered onto the motherboard, the other is a removable 8gb stick. There is an extra m.2 slot that supports sata or nvme.
A:AnswerDon't listen to some of the answers here. There are two m.2 / NVMe storage slots on the motherboard, with one being populated with a 512GB NVMe SSD and the 2nd slot is empty. You can easily install a second PCIe Gen3 NVMe SSD at least up to 2TB. NVMe SSD's are 100X better than a traditional hard drive, and PCIe NVMe's are usually about 10X faster than traditional 2.5" SATA SSD's. You WANT PCIe NVMe rather than a SATA HDD slot.
Also, if you're wondering, the 16GB RAM is using two 8GB memory modules, one is soldered to the motherboard while the other 8GB module is in a slot and can be replaced with either a 16GB or 32GB module, giving you a total of 24GB or 32GB of memory. Put that into perspective, this is a quad-core AMD Ryzen 7 mobile laptop that costs $899 right now, and for another $300, you could upgrade it to 40GB of RAM and 2.5TB of really fast SSD storage, all in a thin and light package with a dedicated GPU. I wish they'd re-release this with Ryzen 7 3780U processor, 16GB memory module on the motherboard an a 1TB PCIe NVMe SSD, maybe a non-MaxQ GPU (although I understand the power and thermal issues), maybe an RTX=2070/2080. I love the form factor of this machine, and it could easily keep up with the Thicc-boi high end gaming laptops if it were refreshed with the top of the AMD/Nvidia mobile products and large base SSD and RAM. I'd gladly pay another $400 for a newer top of the line model.
All said, you would be hard pressed to find another NEW laptop in the thin-and-light class that comes remotely close to this machines specs and gaming performance for under $900. I mean, a 12.9" wi-fi only iPad Pro with only 64GB of storage costs $100 more than this laptop!
A:AnswerI ran into this issue after purchasing it. This laptop only has white backlit keys. I'm saving you the trouble of finding out after you bring it home!
A:AnswerTry going into the NVIDIA control panel and go to the 3D settings and the options from choose automatically to NVIDIA processor. If you don't have the control panel the download the NVIDIA GeForce Experience. But the computer should have come with it on there, mine did.
A:AnswerDepending on the game Fornite/PUBG run well on ultra/high, games like Anthem runs in the 30's on high and 60's on med. In general all games run smoother that a console with higher frames but keep in mind that some newer titles like Rage 2 gives top cards like a GeForce RTX 2070 a problem when running in ultra.
A:AnswerImma start off by saying for most multiplayer games, you should ALWAYS attempt to use ethernet. Wifi solutions will suffer from higher latency, signal fluctuation that can lead to connection drops and packet loss, and will cause more issues when multiple devices are on the wifi hotspot and using it. However from my experience in War Thunder, I haven't had really any problems at all for multiplayer. After flipping through the Warranty Card as long as Best Buy is an authorized seller of the product then there should be no issues with installing a WiFi card you bought FROM Best Buy by having them do it. I will definetly tell you though that I have had some issues streaming from time to time. Up to you.
A:AnswerYes you can. I just recently added a 1tb m.2 SSD. Make sure you buy an m.2 SSD kit though because most SSDd don’t come with a screw to hold it in place. I made that mistake and it was a pain looking for a store that sold the correct screw.
A:AnswerI can cofnirm, it does run Half Life ALYX PERFECTLY.
I have been playing it via my Oculus Quest and Virtual Desktop with ZERO lag on HIGH settings with no issues whatsoever. I am currently chatting with Oculus support, however, to figure out how to get my link cable to work... it has been having issues, but Virtual Desktop solves the issue for now very well.
A:AnswerIts 2400mhz. AMD's ryzen mobile processors support only up to 2400mhz seen on their 3750h webpage. https://www.amd.com/en/products/apu/amd-ryzen-7-3750h
A:AnswerThis device has 16GB of RAM installed. You can add 16 GB more for a total of 32 GB in dual-channel configuration since there is one free SODIMM slot.
A:AnswerThe laptop has 3 USB 3.1 type A ports, a Kensington lock, proprietary power port, RJ45 connector (for Ethernet), HDMI 2.0, USB type C connector with no thunderbolt support but Display port 1.4 support, and a 3.5 mm headphone and microphone combo jack.
A:AnswerThermals are acceptable, I'm getting max temps of 84/79 CPU/GPU. Doesn't appear to be throttling and getting 70-120fps in Metro: Exodus on the recommended setting (Ultra, Ray-Tracing, hairworks, and Advanced PhysX off). Turbo mode works fine, there's even a dedicated button for opening the armory crate program and switching profiles (FN + F5).
A:AnswerThey are downward facing speakers, which muffles them a bit depending on the medium in which the laptop is sitting. I must say though, the sound quality was surprisingly good with great bass reproduction. The max volume level was also modest. It's not going to blow you away, but for an ultra book integrated speaker system, it's phenomenal in my opinion.
A:AnswerIt can but that is not a task I suggest the average person undertake. It requires removing the back cover of the laptop, removing 4 screws holding the battery in and disconnecting a wire harness that with unskilled or unsteady hands could easily be damaged. Thus while it can certainly be done, unless you have experience in laptop repair I highly recommend you leave such an undertaking to a professional. In my experience though usually either something else will break or I will upgrade to a better laptop before the battery becomes a concern.
Now, that being said I've had an overall very positive experience with this ASUS laptop and I have zero regrets in purchasing it. I bought it to run 3d cad software (very processor and graphics intensive) and it performs flawlessly. In fact it actually runs on par with the $2500 xeon based workstation I use at work which is no small feat!
