Ive ran the Geekbench 6 on this laptop to test its speed. The Amd 7940 mobile processor scored 12600 which means it is faster than my desktop i7-11700 processor (10200 gb score). Meanwhile the mobile rtx4060 scored 99000 which is equivalent to a desktop rtx2070 super gpu. So long as you upgrade the nve ssd to 2 tb, i say it should last you through college.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. This laptop will probably last you through grad school, but definitely drop in 32 GB RAM stick somewhere along the way if/when you need it. For extra data storage, a USB-C connected external drive should suffice if you need it for one or two terabytes of extra data (won’t need that unless you want to store games, or maybe if you’re a Data Science or AI major). As far as CPU speed, the Ryzen 7940HS in this laptop has 8 cores, each of which run at the same speed as each of the 16 cores in the Ryzen 7945HX CPU, which currently (2023) is the fastest laptop CPU made, and happens to be faster than most desktop CPUs. In other words, the 7940HS will last you until you need to run a 16-way parallel app, and there won’t be many of those in the next 6 years except maybe in AI or Data Science or Genome Sequencing or in high-end gaming. By the way, a laptop with the Ryzen 7945HX CPU will run you $2000-$4000 depending on what GPU it contains.
