Most printers will automatically install for basic use, but for advanced features (e.g., ink depletion indication, or, if you have a printer that is also combined with a scanner, fax, etc.) you should always download and install the specific software for your printer.

The laptop should be on and charged or plugged into an outlet. Turn on the printer. The computer will recognize the new device attached and provide a message like 'installing printer drivers.' A couple of screens may appear and possibly disappear, but after a few minutes, you should get a final message like 'printer drivers installed.' Then you just print what you want. Do you know how to do that?
