Yes, for this model, X1404ZA-I38128, it has an extra slot. It can detect up to 24 GB of RAM. Additionally, if you were wondering, the storage space is also expandable up to 4TB.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. There is one additional slot of ram that you can add to upgrade. the 8gb that comes with the laptop is soldered into the motherboard.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I bought this laptop simply because it was so cheap and I knew it had some upgradeability. I immediately installed a 16gb ram module in the open slot and cloned the ssd to a 1tb drive and installed that. I couldn't believe just how fast and responsive this this was. BTW, the is a command prompt you can run on any windows computer that will tell you exactly how much ram the computer is capable of excepting. This computer will except up to 64gb of ram, of course, since asus soldered 8gb to the board there is really no way of getting to 64. but you can actually install a 32gb ram module to get to 40gb's.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I just bought this laptop and a ddr4 32gb 3200 Mhz memory. It works perfectly fine with 40 gb of ram. Just posting this here because nobody in internet says if it's possible run 40gb in this laptop.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. There is always such a great lack of disagreement on the correct answer to this type of question that I am starting to look it up myself. I checked the Asus website, as well as two independent RAM sellers, and all gave the same information: there are a total of two RAM slots, of which one is occupied with a soldered 8GB module, and the second can accept up to 16GB. One person says the two can add up to 64GB, but I have no way of testing this (short of actually buying and upgrading it). My guess is that the original designed allowed for the 24GB maximum, but subsequent testing by owners have demonstrated the 64GB compatibility, but at present I cannot verify this.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Adding more information: I haven't tried upgrading past the 16GB theoretical RAM limit, but wanted to inform those that are unaware that it is possible to buy a 40GB SODIMM stick, so you should be able to go up to 48GB if you wanted to.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. If by "Slot" you mean "socket," then no - "Slot 0" is soldered directly to the motherboard; there is no SODIMM socket to swap out modules. But "Slot 1" does have a socket, and you can install up to 16GB in that socket for 24 GB total. Honestly, you would be better off simply ordering a M471A1G44BB0-CWE module (use CPU-Z to verify that is what is installed on your particular machine) will be more than enough for what this is capable of. Or if you're not that particular, literally any DDR4-3200 8GB module will be fine - part of Slot 0 is already allocated to VRAM for the integrated graphics so you don't need to be too fussy anyway.
