Q: QuestionWhy was this same laptop listed at $1499 two days ago (unavailable), but now they have it in stock for +$200 more? Everywhere else, it is $1499.

• A:Answer Actually I looked it up on their website. The one with Windows 10 Pro is the UX501VW-XS74T one and costs $1699. The one bestbuy is selling is the UX501VW-DS71T version with Windows 10 Home but they've raised the price up to $1699, while it is still $1499 on the ASUS website. Tricky tricky. I would ask bestbuy which version of Windows it has before buying it.

• A:Answer As of this post it really is impossible to get a better/faster SSD. This ASUS uses Samsung M.2 SM951 M.2 PCIe SSD. Up to 4x faster than a standard SSD. It is replaceable with 1 screw but again - there would be no reason to replace this for years and years to come. It is not the weak link of this unit by any stretch.

• A:Answer I would suggest to check out a Dell XPS 15 instead, if you like the idea of this laptop. You can get good deals on refurbs. The main issue with the UX501VW is that it uses a PenTile (RG/BW) not-true-4K display. You risk app scaling issues without actually getting the full sharpness of 4K in exchange for it. A consensus on laptop forums is that this is deceptive marketing. The 4K display in the XPS 15 is the real deal, and the FHD models are fantastic too. The sidebar on http://reddit.com/r/SuggestALaptop/ has more info on this whole issue. Also check the software you plan to use to see if it scales properly on high-DPI screens, before you get a '4K' laptop, true 4K or not. Ableton, in particular, seems to work with a few tweaks, though third party plugins may appear tiny still. https://www.reddit.com/r/ableton/comments/3uophe/proper_scaling_on_4k_screen_fix/ FL Studio I'm not sure.

• A:Answer The 960M isn't the best GPU for this price. I would aim for a GTX 1060 or 1070 if you want the best gaming experience at this price point, or maybe a Dell XPS 15 with a GTX 1050 for a good middle-ground between game performance and portability. Also be aware the Zenbook Pro UX501VW uses a PenTile (RG/BW) not-true-4K display. The RGB in each pixel is replaced with either only RG or only BW. This means you get all the risk for content scaling issues, without the full sharpness of 4K to "make up for it". ASUS does this on just about all their current high-res offerings, and it's commonly regarded to be a deceptive marketing practice. The Dell XPS 15 4K uses a true 4K display though
