The "programmable" capabilities of this phone are limited to entering numbers who frequently call and how you want them ID'd. I found this usseful as even though it is someone I want to talk to their number is not always correctly identified on the caller ID. I screen calls so you have 2 options--talk to my answering machine so I hear who it is or I program your number so it always shows correctly. I would NOT recommend this phone because of one BIG problem--it has VERY loud backfeed whenever the receiver gets anywhere near the base unit while on a call. I called AT&T and was told the phone is working properly; it's supposed to do that whenever it gets within 10 feet of an electrical appliance (apparently including itself). If this is the case, then why don't they include a cord that is longer than 10ft or instructions to let you know this problem exists? The way it is you cannot have the phone on your desk if you don't want to destroy the hearing and disposition of the person on the other end. Good Luck!
