A:AnswerThis device will provide you with much more reliable and faster internet compared to satellite. Satellite internet is not considered live internet, so it is quite limited. Even if it does work, the data limits will keep you waiting til the next billing cycle to do anything. I get my service from an AT&T reseller for $60 per month. No data limits, no throttling, not affected by weather, no large equipment to install. This particular device allows me to stream Netflix, Hulu, Prime Video, and more without any buffering. YouTube loads nearly instantly in 1080p with no buffering. I can stream my games and participate in online games and chats on my Xbox, and this device even allows me to work from home. I have a router connected to the Ethernet cable which gives me regular internet like when I lived in town.
I go through about 1 TB (over 1,000 GB's) every month with no issues, no throttling, no data caps. I have had satellite and the best package you can get allows you 100 MB per month. Some Xbox games alone (such as Forza or Halo) are over 90 GB's alone, so data caps just don't work. HD and 4K streaming can burn through 100 GB's in just a matter of days. I am partially disabled and live in a very rural area that doesn't even offer regular home phone service anymore, so having the option of true high speed internet at home (which is also mobile) has truly changed my life.
I have two active mobile broadband devices, one being this Nighthawk mobile broadband modem and the other is a regular netgear wifi hotspot device. They both use the exact same service. The Nighthawk modem consistently gets a stronger signals and produce a faster download and upload speed. It is well worth the extra money. Just remember to charge the battery before you use it. It can operate without the battery, which also reduces the chance of overheating when under heavy use.
A:AnswerNo, this is a mobile hotspot for use on the ATT cellular network. You can buy the device without activating it but it is locked to ATT and you will need a data plan from them to actually use it.
A:AnswerThe Netgear Nighthawk MR1100 Mobile Hotspot Router is basically a hotspot device for AT&T.
It comes with a new (not activated) AT&T SIM card installed in it. The internal device settings are for AT&T, though they can be altered for Verizon or T-Mobile with their SIM card and other internal setting via the app.
However, for me, there was no prepaid Verizon plans. From what I could find, no AT&T ones either. Therefore, I have a plan from another provider that uses AT&T (as in, signal from their towers). Plans offered from providers such as Wirelessbuy.com [T-Mobile] or Netbuddy.com, [AT&T] etc... for a monthly unlimited data plan that is also untethered, There are several more out there that the "mobile community" RV, mobile home, off-grid, boating, etc. use. The above are just a couple.
NOTE: AT&T and Verizon broadcast differently. AT&T & T-Mobile are "GSM" whereas, Verizon is "CDMA" - thus the internal changes needed to be made to the Netgear Nighthawk if you plan to use it for Verizon. There are YouTube videos that show you how to do that.
I hope this answers you question.
A:AnswerSir, this is just like your cell phone, if it doesn't work in the mountainous regions that you travel, neither will this Modem / Router because just like your cell phone, it too is just a digital two way radio... pure and simple.
A:AnswerIt depend on how you purchase it -- if the full price is more than you can afford in a single purchase; with a 2 year contract the fee is reduced significantly -- however, is you opt out before the end of the 2 year period you will be obligated to pay the full price
A:AnswerYes, it does output. I have it hard wired to my ethernet switch and all my devices are hard wired. I believe when it first came out it was only input but had an update to make the connection output.
A:AnswerIf your security camera allows you to connect via an app on your cell phone and has a WiFi or Ethernet connection then yes. This is a regular network router that simply connects to the internet via cellular network. If you have AT&T or Tmobile service active AND have signal then you will connect to the internet.
A:AnswerI have a prepaid att service which gives me 22gb per month of LTE data. I only get two bars most of the time with this Nighthawk device but I’m still able to get speeds as high as around 20mb down and 5 mb up. If you want to invest in a cell booster kit from a company like Wilson electronics or WeBoost you can get much better results. The speeds fluctuate depending on the current cell reception but I’m able to stream Netflix and YouTube videos and browse the internet no problem. The only thing that is a little wonky is when trying to online game. It’s definitely usable for online gaming but the poor ping time makes the opponents on the screen jump around. Your character doesn’t flutter much at all but your opponents do. I’m actually gonna try connecting this modem to a separate router and then connect the PlayStation to the Internet via an Ethernet cable. Maybe that’ll Improve things just enough to help that issue. The nighthawk comes with its own AT&T SIM card so you don’t need to get one separately. I used to have the netgear LB1120 which worked okay but the biggest difference is the category that each device is. The LB1120 is a category 4 device which only allows connection to a single cell tower. It also only allows speeds of 150mb down and 50 mb up. I was getting somewhere around 6 mb down and 2 mb up. The new Nighthawk modem/router is a category 16 device which means it can connect to up to four cell towers at the same time allowing higher speeds. The max speeds for this are 1 gb down and 150 mb up. I’m actually very happy so far with this device and it has given my wife and I our internet back. We moved to the country where there are no options other than satellite internet which is not only terribly data capped but also ridiculously expensive. Just remember that if this device doesn’t work out for you Best Buy charges a 45 dollar restocking fee if you return it, so keep that in mind. I would also just make sure that you actually have decent ATT coverage in your area before going this route. If you have even enough for a couple of bars then you should be fine.
A:AnswerThis device is capable of much faster speeds. The issue is whether the cell tower you are hitting is congested and whether you have a good signal to it. I can sit below a tower and get 52 Mbps, but I get 8 Mbps at home.
A:AnswerMake sure you have "LTE All" selected in the cellular settings. Otherwise, it will tend to connect to HSPA+ and give slower speeds. The bars displayed on the device doesn't mean as much as some of the data displayed on the diagnostics page. Check the RSRQ and RSRP values for optimal signal (chart attached). Try several different areas of your house looking at these values instead of the bars on the modem. If you are still having issues, I would recommend a Wilson Electronics Wideband Directional Antenna 700-2700 MHz (50 ohm). It would require some low loss coax cable with a splitter to 2x TS9. This has proved to be pretty reliable on a setup I have done (160mbps down). The antenna, cable, and splitter can all be purchased for around $100 if the other options do not help.
A:AnswerHey! I also had a hotspot from AT&T that I used frequently for traveling. I decided it was time for an upgrade. I've read nothing but good things about the Nighthawk and decided to give it a shot. It couldn't have been any easier to get it up and running. All I have to do is remove the SIM card from my old device and insert it into the Nighthawk and BOOM! it was working. I didn't even have to call AT&T to transfer service. I hope this helps to answer your question.
