Speed control. The quartz lock feature maintains stable platter rotational speed by using a quartz phase-locked loop circuit that compares motor rotation speed to a reference frequency generated by a quartz crystal oscillator. If needed, the circuit then makes fine adjustments to the speed in order to keep it stable.

Timing, I haven't had to adjust.
