A:Answer Our turntables have built in phono preamplifiers. A phono preamplifier raises the level from phono to line level and applies the RIAA equalization curve which is required to play back records. This should not be confused with a POWER amplifier which amplifies a line level signal to levels that provide a wide range of volume adjustment for passive loudspeakers.
If you will be connecting the turntable directly to speakers, they need to be powered type speakers. Powered speakers have built-in power amplifiers.
If the speakers are passive type speakers, you will need a stereo amplifier or receiver installed between the turntable and the speakers. Thanks to the phono preamplifier that is built into the turntable, the amplifier or receiver is not required to have PHONO input jacks.
