Powered speakers have amplifiers built into them, you do not need a separate stereo amplifier or receiver between the turntable and the speakers when the speakers are self-powered. The turntable has a built-in phono preamplifier which, when turned on, applies the RIAA equalization curve required to playback records and amplifies the signal to line level.
