No the bridge is not needed, WiFi capability is built into the 4th Gen lock.

No you do not need a bridge for WiFi access. It states it in the specifications, and is pretty much the big selling point coming from the 3rd gen. 4th gen is smaller, takes less batteries (2 CR123 vs 4 AA) and also has the WiFi built in ve having to use the bridge.

If it's the new August Wi-Fi Smart Lock, you don't need the bridge. You only need the bridge for some partnered smart devices. Their website lists which devices you need a bridge for .
