Q: QuestionDoes this adapter require you to plug in power in order to get the HDMI to send from the device? Is the Charging required to operate or can you just plug this into the device, then plug in the HDMI to the monitor and you are good to go?

• A:Answer I battled with this for a while. I was debating whether to use my wife's "old" 6th gen iPadPro 12.9 or keep using my 5th gen Air. When connecting to an external monitor, "extending" only works for units that us the Apple M series chips. Extending is not supported on the Intel chipsets for some reason.
