When the maker is open in the upright position, you simple pour batter on the lower portion, close the lid and flip. When the "done" indicator light glows, you flip it open and remove the one waffles that is sectioned to separate into for equal smaller squares, or keep as one whole lager waffle. It easy to use with very little "practice" required.
