Nope. Only 1 function at a time works. You can brew or make espresso shots or use the steam. If you brewed a pot and waited for it to beep then you could do the espresso after or vis versa. Once the machine is warm the espresso shots are quick.

Only one side can be used at a time since each side has its own power button.

No, you can’t. However, it does not take long at all for the water in the espresso chamber to heat and no time at all to brew it. The coffee seems to take longer than most coffee makers, though.
