Does it use cone type coffee filters null

Yes/ 12 cup so you can easily remove the grinds to the garbage. Extra protection from stuff getting into your coffee. You can use it without if you want.

The pics show a washable cone filter that comes with the unit.

It has a very nice filter insert that is a cone shape. So you do not need filters. But if you wanted to place a cone filter inside of the basket? Then yes, you could.
