I just got this machine today, and it makes good crema. I don't know about longevity, but in the instructions it says to clean it out with special coffee cleaner every so often to keep it going smooth. If you have hard water with lots of minerals, it may need more cleaning than normal to keep it functioning. I use filtered tap water to remove the minerals to keep my machine cleaner. It does have a 2 year warranty, so you should be good for 2 years if you clean it regularly with the liquid cleaner.
