No. It will vacuum, but you will always have either steam or water. If you are looking for something like that, I also bought at the same time as this machine the Bissell Crosswave Hydrosteam Wet/Dry Vac - that worked excellent on hard floors and low-pile area rugs. I used this one here for my more expensive, higher pile carpets.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.No. I wouldn't recommend do that because once used as a cleaner all dirt and gunk will be wet and hard to clean your carpet cleaner. I've tried it and all the dirt came out of the brush onto my carpet in cluncks
