You do not need the cloud/online service. You can connect a USB flash drive to the Sync Module, and it will store clips/video. Beware, once you move from cloud to local storage, accessing the camera, as well as any stored clips takes a VERY long time.

Another storage option is local storage, activated by plugging a USB flash drive into a Sync Module 2. Local storage has no recurring fee to use the feature. Either of these storage options will let you view clips remotely from your phone. Without a storage system for your clips your system will be able to detect motion, notify you of the motion, and live view.
