Hi Bookreporter, thank you for your question and interest in model #SHX5AEM5N. Wi-Fi is not required to operate the dishwasher. You can manually turn on the dishwasher, select a cycle and options from the control display, and run the cycle without Wi-Fi connectivity. However, there are certain cycles and options that are exclusively available through the Home Connect app. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
