Hi msgr, thank you for your question. Model:HMV8053U does have removable filters and per the Use and Care Manual the oven ventilation filters should be removed and cleaned often; generally at least once every month. This microwave has 2 easily removable/washable filters on the bottom of the unit where they can collect oily cooking byproducts. It also has 1 not-so-easily removable/replaceable charcoal filter near the air discharge vent above the door. It is supposed to trap odors that would otherwise recirculate into the room. While better than most systems, I think not nearly as good as a ducted vent to outside the home.
