- Answer Yes. My receiver outputs 160w per channel. You won't blow them unless you crank the music. The wattage you're seeing on the speakers is what they draw from the source, not their limitation. Essentially, they require 100w, but the receiver is smart enough to avoid over-powering them. You can always run lower power speakers on a higher watt receiver; you cannot do the opposite. I wouldn't advise these as standalone fronts as they don't produce low frequencies well.

QuestionSpeaker position.Is there a proper mounting for the 161 speaker? Can I use it as my front mains? Is it necessary to mount or place them in the horizontal position or can I mount or position them vertically

- Answer There isn't really a right or wrong mounting for these. They can be vertical or horizontal. Mine are mounted vertically as surround speakers. You CAN use them as front mains, but they aren't really designed for serious sound or to produce lower frequencies. They'll do fine for normal TV viewing, but I still wouldn't consider them as fronts for a fully designed system (5.1 or 7.1). If paired with a subwoofer you may be content, but I wouldn't think you'd be happy.

QuestionHow to hang from the ceilingOK, so I bought the 161's, and they sound great. Just one problem - when you put the bracket on the ceiling, the speakers point straight down. They don't pivot very much, but if I try to point them towards the front of the room, the little plastic teeth that are supposed to hold them in position don't work, No matter how tight I put in the screw, they strip and the speakers go back to hanging straight down. Tightening the screw seems to separate the teeth instead of keeping them interlocked. The speaker seems too heavy for the small teeth in the bracket. What am I missing? Is there some trick to this?

- Answer Thanks for the question, Rick. Really, the best positioning for the 161’s will come down to your own personal preference. The 161’s could be used either as the main left/right rear surround speakers, or as the 6th and 7th channels for the 7.1 setup. The actual placement of these 6th and 7th channels will depend on the size and shape of the room. If you plan on using the 161’s to complete the 6th and 7th channels, typically the best placement would be behind the main listening area and between the main left and right surround channels. Keep in mind that the 161’s connect directly to receiver as opposed to the double cubes that connect to the Acoustimass module. This may be a consideration when it comes to the placement of these speakers.

- Answer The Bose Cinemate is only designed to work with the speakers that are included with that system. They are not compatible with another receiver. To use 161 speakers, you would need to purchase a separate receiver. But the 161 speakers could not be added as additional speakers to the same TV that is hooked up to the Cinemate system. - Answer Easy answer, No... technically you could. but it'd be easier to get $100 bose computer speakers that hook directly into your 3.5mm input soundcard... Good luck to you!

- Answer Thanks for the question! The Bose ® 161™ Speakers are designed to be connected to a separate amplifier or stereo/home theater receiver. Therefore, they cannot be connected to our Wave Radio CD ® or Wave Music System ® products. This is also true of any of our passive (non-powered) speakers.

- Answer I'm not very technical so I can't answer about 20w power output?? They're just speakers that connected to my receiver with regular speaker wire - nothing too technical. If your stereo has regular speaker wire output connectors I would think they would work.

- Answer Yes, this model has a left and a right unit. You most likely would not need, or want, a sound bar for your needs.

However, the 161 speakers will work with any receiver that provides 10-100 W per channel, 4-8 ohms. You may need to check with the manufacturer of your receiver to check this. We hope this helps!

- Answer These Bose speakers will sound very good both as front firing (make sure you mount at proper height if wall mount) or speaker stands if that is method of install. I have tried these in combination with Bose 301'a and the 161's both mounted in back=front to see what best sound could be produced. I finally decided to install the 161's on the back wall with the 301's in front. I also have a pair of Bose 901's but have been on the hunt for a very good speaker stand for them. Due to their rather unusual shape I have so far failed to find. Just be sure to use the best speaker wire at hand but no need to purchase ridiculously high priced wire. Frankly I use Amazon Basics wire and it is very good at least for me. Am sure Best Buy may have a similar type at a reasonable price. Be sure to not make my mistake and get the positive and negatives flipped at each end. Sounded horrific! Good luck and the Yamaha receiver will do a very decent job of driving the 161's. for fun down the road try adding some additional power via an inexpensive power amplifier. I bought one used for $145 and it made a HUGE difference in the sound output,

- Answer These speakers are designed to be connected to a non-Bose stereo receiver. We do offer our line of Bluetooth powered speakers, the SoundLink models, which would be a great pairing with this turntable.
