Aloha Larry, I've never tried the old ones but I must say the quality of the materials is primo. We use Mothers leather oil to maintain the goodness.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I have had these headphones for 2 and a half years and have put them through heavy use, and plenty of drops. Structurally, I haven't had a problem. The ear pads did get a little rough looking about a year and a half in. Started fraying slowly, but didn't change anything for me. Until the foam started to fall out of the earpad, I then just bought the Bose replacement earpads and took me less than 5 minutes to swap them out. So $30 seemed pretty reasonable to me with how much use I put into the headphones with no self maintenance. As far as the headband, its only sign of use is the change in color from getting dirty over time and truthfully not too noticeable. If they did tear, I do not believe Bose offers replacement but there are plenty of after market replacements.
