I am curt using them now with a large storm outside (thunder and heavy rain). I didn't hear the entire storm until I looked out side. These will help you.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Never tried it specifically with thunder, but I can tell you that the noise reduction is remarkable. I use it on planes all the time. Apparently, there was an infant screaming through a recent cross-country flight and I never heard it at all.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The short answer is Yes. The QC35s have excellent passive noise cancelling, which will certainly dampen the sound of thunder (the sound of thunder is too short for active noise cancelling to do much). If you listen to music or white noise, you will likely not hear most of the sound of the thunder.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes I think it would, if you pick the correct sized earbuds. I use them on planes, they've blocked out crying babies, engine noise, everything. And the Bluetooth connection is good enough the walk around an apt (or on a plane) and still be connected.
