You can, but your sound bar will still need power. We mounted the soundbar to the tv and no wires are visible. You need a special bracket for the Bose sound bar but it looks great and then you can put a few decorative items on the mantel. See pic below.

The SoundTouch 300 soundbar can connect wirelessly to TV's that transmit Bluetooth, however, you may notice a delay between audio and video that affects your enjoyment of the content. For the best performance, we would recommend using the HDMI or optical cable and adding a cover to conceal the wires, as the included cables are not rated for in-wall use. Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Bluetooth is an option but HDMI connection or optical is still needed to connect tv to Bose sound bar. One option is to run cords through the wall to hide connections. You would have to get a wall plate for this. I would google how to hid tv wires.
