The usage of the toner is measured by the machine, based in the amount of pages printed and their coverage, this is not handled by a chip on the toner. When the Brother HL-L2390DW runs out of toner, the toner will need to be replaced to continue printing operations but you may also set the machine to continue printing after the "Replace Toner" message appears. Print quality cannot be guaranteed while printing in this mode. We strongly recommend to use only Brother Genuine cartridges for optimal results. Using non-Brother supplies may affect the hardware performance, print quality and machine reliability. The Brother limited warranty may not apply to any problem that is caused by the use of third-party supplies. For more information, feel free to contact Brother Customer Service directly.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. If you have the Brother software installed there is a monitor that lets you know the toner status. I do believe that feature will only work with true Brother branded toners. You can use off branded toners and I have had good luck over the years with the ones I've purchased from Amazon but I do not recall as to whether or not the monitor software showed toner status with those. Hope this helps
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It shows the amount of ink left via the LCD screen and through the Brother program on your PC. And yes, you can use 3rd party ink toner cartridges but the Brother ones go for around 20 bucks and I recommend them instead. It’s a great printer and I highly recommend. I hope this helps
