The two machines are very similar and based on the same duplex, 42ppm print engine. The 5900 add two sided scanning, in which both sides of the paper are read at once. The other difference is that the 5900 has the ability to be used as a fax machine, and you can scan and fax pretty large documents, such as for example legal or mortgage papers. Let me just say that the 5900 is definitely the way to go if you are considering converting to a paperless office. A high speed, duplex scanner can go a long way to digitizing stacks of papers, and, unlike many other printers, the Brother will do 400-600 dpi. If you don't do a lot of scanning, you could consider one of the lower models as well. The 5800 and the 5900 both have a legal sized glass platen for hand placing documents, the lower models do not. Both the 5800 and the 5900 can take the oversize, 8,000 page toner cartridge. The higher models print faster, but 42ppm is plenty fast enough and the really fast printers are more likely to develop timing issues in the paper path.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. All is the same except that the 5900 has duplex scanning as well as copying/printing. Found the information by going to specifications and doing a model comparison.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.5900 also has Gigabyte Ethernet where the 5800 has 100. 5850 is also a good choice.
