  • QuestionIs there a way to turn only the hotplate on if you exceed the 2 hour limit for the version with a hotplate? I have only found that you need to re-brew a pot of coffee to get it to turn on again.

    Asked by Nate.

    • Answer Hello. Thanks for checking with us! Yes, the warming plate will only stay on for 2 hours after the brew cycle ends. To reheat, you will need to brew again. We hope this helps, and should you have any additional questions, please reach out to us!- Kianna@Café

  • QuestionIs there anyway to turn the hot plate back on if you go over the 2 hour limit? Thank you

    Asked by Nate.

    • Answer Hello, thank you for the excellent question. Because this coffee maker comes with a thermal carafe designed to keep your coffee hot for up to two hours, it does not have a hot plate. • QuestionJust a quick question please. Not sure if this coffee maker should be showing an AM or PM light. I am not using auto brew but only a white illumination shows, not an actual AM or PM sign. Is this correct that only a white light illuminates? Thank you.

    Asked by Lauren.

    • Answer Hey there, This is a great question! The AM/PM should be illuminated with the time. If you are having difficulty with setting up the clock, please check out page 7 of the manual for details. https://files.bbystatic.com/OBp33bUsk9y4yaYiDauG1A%3D%3D/Manual. It is correct that only a white light illuminates. Let us know if you have any other questions. Happy brewing! Mike@Cafe

  • Questioni have purchase this unit second hand. it will not brew, ring aroung the brew know only blinks. any words of wisdom? joe

    Asked by jojo.

    • Answer Hello there we're so sorry to hear your coffee maker isn't brewing. We know how frustrating this would be for you and we're happy to help with the following tips: 1) Verify that the carafe is centered in middle of the carafe pocket. Remove the carafe and put it back in place to re-center. 2) Make sure you are using the carafe that came with the product to activate brewing. 3) If the carafe is removed during the cycle, the error message will display and the cycle will stop. After two minutes, the message will stop being displayed and the brew cycle will end. To fix the issue, replace the carafe within the two minutes. 4) If the brewer runs out of water prior to reaching the desired cup amount set at the beginning of the cycle, this message will be displayed. Add more water to complete the cycle, or the message will go away after two minutes. 5) Check that the software is up-to-date through the SmartHQ™ app. 6) Unplug the coffee maker briefly and plug it back in. If you continue to have issues, we recommend checking to see if this is less than a year old. If so, please consult the warranty listed on page 21 of the owner's manual here: https://files.bbystatic.com/OBp33bUsk9y4yaYiDauG1A%3D%3D/Manual - All the best. - Guy@Cafe

  • QuestionIs the white model hard to keep clean?

    Asked by Tina.

    • Answer Yes and no. Where it counts, the outside, is super easy because it just doesn't get dirty. There is a flow spout that goes into the carafe attached to the lid that is made of a hard plastic. This is unfortunately white and looks like it may tint from coffee over time. I've had it for a couple of months and have noticed slight color change but it's inside the carafe. Probably why all coffee makers are black. My SO is a clean freak and she loves this thing. We both just said last night how awesome this machine is. The white looks elegant on the counter and it feels premium. I hope it lasts years.

    Asked by PalmSpringsBill.

    • Answer Hello- Thanks so much for your question. We are happy to help! The Carafe needs to be present when brewing coffee. You will receive an error message (Err) if you try to brew without the carafe in place. We hope this helps! Thank you! Joyce@Cafe

  • QuestionShould the coffee be difficult to pour out of the carafe? It seams as it always drips down the side when we do- even when the top is off we have to fully turn the carafe upside down to get the coffee out and it makes a mess.

    Asked by Kristy.

    • Answer Hello- Thank you for checking with us. We are sorry to hear you're having this issue, but will be happy to offer some tips and suggestions. We recommend making sure you haven't inadvertently placed the cap on the carafe backwards. If the cap is on the carafe backwards, dripping or leaking will occur. There is an arrow molded on the top of the lid and it should be facing toward the spout. Please check to make sure the cap is on correctly. Also, there can be some coffee left in the carafe that cannot be poured out due to construction of the valve. The top has to be removed by twisting a quarter turn and pulling. This may be a possibility. If you continue to have issues, please reach out to us directly at the GE Answer Center at 1-800-626-2000. Thank you! Joyce@Cafe

  • QuestionWe can’t get it to brew! We’ve read and reread the manual, but even simply pushing the brew button doesn’t work. Did I buy a lemon?

    Asked by Mary.

    • Answer Hello. We appreciate you taking the time to reach out, though we truly hate to hear you’ve had a problem getting the coffee maker to brew. We know that must have caused frustration. You may want to double check that the carafe is in the correct place, with the top of the carafe engaged with the drip stop lever on the bottom of the brew basket, or water won’t flow into the carafe. If the carafe isn’t in place when you select Brew, there will be an error message. You may also want to check that you aren’t setting it to Auto Brew later, rather than brewing immediately. There are troubleshooting tips on page 15 of your manual, and if you think it’s necessary your manual also has information about how to take advantage of the limited warranty on page 16. We hope you are able to get this issue resolved soon, so you can enjoy your coffee maker without further inconvenience. If you have any other concerns or questions, we're always happy to help. Wishing you all the best! -Sarah@Café

  • QuestionI received this coffee maker today and both the external and internal boxes have the P65 cancer warning . I have yet to find (in the owners manual, on Cafè website, etc) specifically what the P65 warning is referring to????

    Asked by Erin.

    • Answer Hello- Thank you for reaching out. Congratulations on your new Coffee Maker. This is a beautiful model! We can understand your concern and are happy to help explain. We comply with federal and state chemical labeling laws. One such law is California Proposition 65, enacted by California in 1986 (Prop 65). This state law requires companies to provide a warning for thousands of consumer products, foods, prescription drugs, alcoholic beverages, enclosed parking facilities, amusement parks, furniture, and other everyday items. The presence of a Proposition 65 warning does not necessarily mean the product is unsafe or poses a health risk. Over 800 chemicals are on this list, including wood dust, nickel (found in stainless steel), nicotine, and alcohol. Additionally, even inaccessible parts can cause the warning. We hope this helps! If you have any additional questions, please let us know. We are here to help! Joyce@Cafe

  • QuestionI am looking at the Café - Smart Drip 10-Cup Coffee Maker with WiFi - Brushed Stainless Model:C7CDAAS2PS3 SKU:6421030. Can I get the the glass cafe too? It looks as if they are the same. Could you also make tea?

    Asked by Chris.

    • Answer Hi Chris, The Café Smart 10-Cup Coffee Maker is available from Best Buy in brushed stainless steal with a glass carafe. I just googled it and found it on their site that way if you were having trouble finding it through their actual site. I often find google is better at finding things than I am if trying to navigate a sprawling website. About whether the device can make tea. In theory it should be able to but there might be a couple of issues. If you switch between using it for coffee and tea the tea might taste odd, even if you used paper liners for one (which you can use) instead of the gold mesh liner for both. Maybe if you also removed the inner plastic basket and washed that between switches. I clean it every time I make a pot of coffee so it doesn’t get a stale coffee smell anyhow. One thing I really like about this device is it is pretty cleanable despite warnings of not putting anything in the dishwasher (tosh). But the other thing about brewing tea in it is that the Café Smart, and many newer drip machines, brew fairly quickly and the (presumably loose) tea won’t steep. With my Café Smart, a 10-cup pot of coffee brews in about 5-6 minutes. But if you were just thinking of brewing directly in the glass carafe, of course you can use anything like a teapot. I have the thermal carafe myself and find that much better for keeping the coffee warm. We brew tea to a precise temp in a Cuisinart electric kettle—had it for ages. Green tea gets made 2-3 times per day and put in large thermoses for family distribution. That’s our routine. Hope that helps!

  • QuestionWhere are these manufactured?

    Asked by Anonymous.

    • Answer China. But it is an American company, incorporated in Lexington KY, for what that’s worth. I would love. Love. Loooove, to stop buying things made in China. And I’d love even more to buy American made. We bought a coffee maker just before this (and returned) that was American made (Bunn) because I’d had great experience with them in commercial settings. Unfortunately they didn’t alter the basic design for home use and the result is beyond impractical to borderline unsanitary if used just once a day, unlike an office/restaurant/gas station/etc. The dark water reservoir has to be kept full of warm water (but not boiling/boiled), making it perfect for growing bacteria and impossible to see if things are getting funky. By contrast I can see this water reservoir entirely and it has squared off corners that will be easy to clean if they do get at all funky. And I can see if anything accidentally falls in there. After years of use, things do fall into the reservoirs of coffee makers, I’ve seen it. Unfortunately that was maybe the worst but not the least of what made that product grossly inferior to the Café Smart. We hadn’t wanted to spend twice as much for a coffee maker but in the end we were thrilled we did. I’ll have to write my Congressman about my other concerns. Hope that helped!

  • QuestionWhat kind of coffee do u use? Medium ground ?

    Asked by Betsy.

    • Answer All the manual says is that, “the grind size of the coffee is for brewing using the drip coffee method.” To me that reads as, this is not an espresso maker(!) We use a medium grind from the store. My understanding is that most auto drips are designed to deal well with a medium rather than a coarser grind. However, because you can play around with the settings/brew strength, you should also be able to see how you can get your preferred brew if you so choose. We used the provided scoop and their suggested one scoop per cup. Their scoop was noticeably bigger than our old coffee scoop. The resulting coffee was good but too strong. If the grind had been coarser it might’ve been ok. We just went back to using our old scoop and now it’s peeerfect. Hope that helps!
