“I would like to use only a black ink cartridge in the Canon MG2600 as I only print documents in black and white. Do I need to purchase the color cartridges too?”

I do the same as you on same machine, and don't use color ink. Don't buy unless you want to print beautiful pictures.

No. You dont need to buy the colored ink if you are just using black ink. Im doing the same thing.

no, when you print go to your preferences and select "grayscale" this will make all your printing blank ink only

Check the settings on your printer. You may be able to set it to just Black/White printing. As for needing a color cartridge, I'm not sure so you'll have to check your printer user guide. Some printers won't print unless you have both cartridges installed.
