The XL just means it holds more ink. I have been able to use the 240 and the 240XL in my printer without any problems.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.According to the salesperson at Best Buy, XL simply means that your ink will last longer than the regular 240. I've never used a compatible brand, I've only purchased the Canon brand. Maybe I should look into that.
