There is no way this machine, Canon Image CLASS MF244DW, will hold legal size paper. You can only load letter paper - 8 1/2 X 11 and you cannot feed legal paper in manually. However you can copy a legal sized document but you need to reduce it to letter size. You must feed the original through the top so that the machine pulls the document in. It will not work if you lift the lid and place the document on the glass patten as part of the document will not be exposed. Then you must set the magnification size as "Legal to Letter". To do that - Touch "Menu", Scroll down to "Copy Settings", hit OK and "Change Default Settings" will be the first item on the scroll, touch OK and then scroll down to "Copy Ratio", touch OK and scroll down to "78% LGL -> LTR, then, finally, touch OK. Place the legal sized document face up in the document holder and then hit Start. This will probably also work for a scan but I have not tried that yet. Good luck.
