• The printer will print by default in a mixture of the inks, but you can choose to print in grayscale in the printer preferences and that will use only the black ink as I understand it. You should print colors from time to time to keep the inks from drying out. The other thing I like about this printer is the ability to keep printing after there is a notification that an ink is out.
