You probably can. It does have a chip on it, so you may need to reset the cartridge (don't know for sure) to get accurate ink levels. The Canon tanks are black, so you cannot see the levels. I used to fill my own tanks, but with the hassle of everything, I just buy a set of generic tanks for around $12.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.You buy the individual color cassettes to refill ink. It is really recommended to use Canon ink to keep the jets clean. This model did have a low "cost per page" rating so seemed like a good way to go.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.If you want to go cheap on ink, you can find cartridges on eBay for a fraction of the cost of the real Canon cartridges. I started using them after my warranty ran out two years ago on a Canon printer and they are averaging less than a dollar a cartridge and last just about as long. Quality has been more than acceptable, even for photos. Of course the ink may not hold it's color as long, but for general printing, the cheap cartridges work fine.
