• Both yet the instructions say you should hand wash. It's easy enough to just hand wash

• If you put the basket in the dishwasher it reduces the non-stick feature of the metal

• I prefer to wash it myself, as you have to clean it regularly. Its easier to remove any oil, drippings, crumbs, etc, plus I think its better.
