• Hi schmendrick, Yes, as long as you have an internet connection you can use the Chromecast with GoogleTV and stream all your cast enabled apps before you decide to terminate your other services.

• Chromecast is not connected to Dish and can be played anytime as long as you have wireless internet access.

• Besides the free and subscription streaming services the chromecast offers like Netflix and HBO, there is an option to subscribe to GoogleTV. That includes additional channels and local services, depending on your city. I think it has a free trial. Of course, you need a fast WiFi connection in any case. If DirectTV also provides your WiFi, you would have to get that from another internet provider if DirectTV provides your WiFi and you want to drop that one. You can easily test the chromecast before terminating your DirectTV.
