I've never had to use a filter.

Not that im aware of. I don't remember reading that in the guide. I know that there are specific ways to clean and sanitize it just to keep it from building up bacteria, but that's about it

Crane humidifiers do not need a filter. They are made to be filter-less. If you have hard water you can purchase distilled water or buy a Crane decriminalization filter HS-1932. If you need further assistance please call Crane Customer Care 888-599-0992
