Most definitely these speakers can be used as ceiling speakers. When you say ceiling, I assume you mean height speakers for Atmos effects—>so what I write below will really be geared towards height application. However, if you truly do mean ceiling speakers for surrounds or fronts....yes technically these can, but it is not advisable to put surround speakers anywhere near that high as it ruins the soundscape for listening (they should be closer to ear level) and will make audio appear artificial and not coming from proper direction, (spoken audio hard especially but even effects will also be harder to discern). As to height application…..any speaker can really be used as height speakers as they are producing sound just like any regular speaker: The biggest difference with speakers that are specifically suited for height/atmos effects as that the box/housing of the speaker itself is built in such a way as to facilitate higher placement. Mainly, that usually means an in-ceiling speaker, but that could also mean a speaker such as this that can easily be placed higher up but still have the tweeters angled toward the listening position. (And actually, Dolby Atmos' official recommendation is that height speakers are often times better placed 'on the wall' than in the ceiling....so a speaker like this facilitates that). The other difference with height speakers is that they produce far less of the soundscape and are usually for effects (as opposed to constant dialogue or critical listening of the musical score), so it is generally suggested that you spend less on height speakers compared to the other speakers in your setup. In other words, if you have a budget, instead of speaking equally on all your surround speakers, you can bump up to better surrounds and skimp a little on height speakers. As such, speakers specifically marketed as height speakers, are usually built with less 'bells and whistles' or smaller drivers. Hope that helps. Many blessings.
