Any Intel i5 7th generation or earlier gets pummeled by the AMD Ryzen, and the Ryzen is flat out preferable to an i3 or lower. Intel i5 8th generation or later, they trade blows depending on the task but both are great processors. i5 will generally have a bit better battery life, but you're typically looking at more than four hours in either case. That said, if you're planning on doing any kind of light gaming? The Ryzen's integrated graphics are vastly superior to Intel's, and it winds up being a much better choice.
