I'm assuming that slot is for an internal drive, but I was told they don't make them with internal drives anymore, so I believe it's empty

Either internal or external DVD drive would be listed as the respective drives under your PC specifications. Then, right-click on the respective drive and click the option "Eject" to open the disc tray. Should you not able to open the disc tray with the above step, do reach out to the Dell support team for further assistance.

This keyboard shortcut sends an eject-disc signal to the drive. If nothing happens, open the "Control Panel" and right-click on "CD/DVD Drive." Click "Eject" to open the disc tray.
