1. Descaling does need to be done, but the frequency would depend upon the hardness of your tap water -- which I would HIGHLY suggest you filter before filling the reservoir. (You program the machine based upon your home's water softness so that it will let you know when it's time.) The machine comes new with a dose of the DeLonghi descaling solution which you can purchase more online for future cleanings. It must be pretty harsh/acidic because it says not to get it on your clothes. I've also seen videos of people using white vinegar, so you might check that out. 2. You shouldn't get any algae growth with filtered water. The reservoir is at the back of the machine -- but it is clear. Just keep it out of direct sunlight and you should be fine.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Hi, descaling is important as it ensure mineral and hard-water build-up does not interfere with the quality of espresso produced by this unit. Thank you.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I haven't used it enough yet to know about descaling, but the water reservoir is not hidden from light. It is tinted plastic, but not all that dark. I just fired mine up last night and tried again today, and so far, I'm quite unimpressed. It feels awfully cheap for the price. The foam on my third try was good, though. The espresso, not so much.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Good question. The resivoir is in the back and removable. I would clean it once in a while anyways. That should kee the algae from being a nuisance. I did have problems like that in other water containers.
