• A:Answer Yes, this receiver supports multi-zone with the "Main Zone" being 5.1 and "Zone 2" being stereo. The "surround back" speaker connectors are used for Zone 2. The remote control contains 2 buttons in the upper left (labeled "Main Zone" and "Zone 2") for quickly turning on and off each zone independently. Note that you can choose which zones are on or off, but there is only a single audio source for both. You cannot listen to different things in the two zones at the same time. (Some more advanced receivers support this functionality, but this one does not.)

• A:Answer Hello, the Denon AVR-S970H does have Bluetooth retransmit. This allows the connection of Bluetooth headphones. Playback can be done simultaneously with either speakers and Bluetooth headphones or just the headphones.

• A:Answer There are three inputs (labeled with "8K") that support 40gbit bandwidth HDMI 2.1, which includes 4K/120Hz (or 8K/60Hz) w/ HLG, HDR, Dolby Vision, HDR10+, and Dynamic HDR. These three inputs also support HDMI 2.1 features like Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), Quick Frame Transport (QFT), and Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM). HDMI 2.1 also supports eARC (vs. HDMI 2.0's ARC support), though this is unlikely to be an important feature for a receiver user. The other three inputs are older HDMI 2.0. In March 2023 when I'm writing this, those three inputs should be enough to cover the most common sources of HDMI 2.1 content: Xbox Series X/S, Playstation 5, and a PC w/ an HDMI 2.1 GPU (like a 30- or 40-series NVIDIA card). For the more technically inclined: although the Xbox and PC support full 48Gbit HDMI 2.1, the provided 40Gbit is sufficient for 4K 120Hz with 10-bit color at 4:4:4, so there should be no issue with anything 4K w/ this receiver. This is a very strong mid-range receiver for modern users, but it may be something you end up replacing in 5ish years as 8K becomes more prevalent and you may want full HDMI 2.1 bandwidth and more inputs that support it.

The AVR-X1800H has the following features not found on the AVR-S970H: Front left and right pre-out, Bi-amping for the front left and right speakers, DSD via HDMI, Dialog enhancement, more advanced room correction (Audyssey MultEQ XT), Speaker A/B assignable, detachable power cord. The AVR-X1800H also has more advanced power supplies in the power amplifier stage - this allows for support of a wider range of loudspeaker, handling more demanding loads than the AVR-S970H.

• A:Answer Hello Tony, thank you for your inquiry. Both the AVR-X1800 and AVR-S970H receivers are compatible with the S Series or Reserve Series from Polk Audio. We recommend trying out both offerings from Polk Audio if possible. The Reserve Series, in particular, features a remarkable Ring Radiator tweeter that must be heard. The main differences between the two receivers mainly lie in their features. The 970 provides an extra HDMI to connect a projector with a monitor or two monitors, while the 1800 offers Pre-output connectivity. With Pre-Outputs, you can potentially upgrade by adding a Two-Channel amplifier for the front speakers or to Zone two allowing Zone two plus 7.1 function. Additionally, the 1800 has a more advanced power supply and can handle speaker impedance swings better.

• A:Answer Hello, The AVR-S970H can drive a wide range of speakers overall. If you have a large room, I suggest favoring speakers with a sensitivity rating of 87dB or more. If you have a smaller room, speakers with a sensitivity rating of 85dB or more is recommended. Some speakers are particularly difficult to drive - such as Magnepan models, but most speakers are much less of a challenge for the AVR-S970H.

Q: QuestionYou have two HDMI outs on this receiver. Can this be used as an HDMI splitter by connecting the HDMI from spectrum box to this Denon HDMI IN port, then use HDMI out 1 to connect to the TV and HDMI out 2 to the Projector?

• A:Answer Hello. Yes - there are six HDMI inputs, and two HDMI Monitor (video only, no sound) outputs. In your case, one output to your TV, and the other to a Projector. As HDMI Monitor 1 is an eARC port, it means it can receive an audio return feed from a TV (equipped with an eARC HDMI port), so any audio signal from TV apps, or devices connected directly to the TV will be fed into the AVR-S970H allowing you to enjoy audio from those sources in surround sound too.

Q: Questioni have a vizio p series tv. i have an xbox series x connected to the receiver. with hrd 10 enabled on the xbox i don't get a picture when i try to play a game. . it only works with movies and not games. very confused. every thing is connected correctly

• A:Answer Hello. Sorry to learn of this inconvenience. The first thing to check with your AVR-S970H is the '8K Enhanced' feature has been enabled. If the symptom is still present, upgrading your HDMI cables could well resolve the matter, as it so often does with this type of symptom. Ultra High Speed HDMI cables are required. Because not all Ultra High Speed HDMI cables are made the same, we recommend Audioquest - their HDMI cables have yet to let us down.

However, I also wanted to mention that the AVR-S970H comes with HEOS built-in, which means you can connect up to 32 different Denon Home (HEOS) devices, including the Denon Home 550 HEOS soundbar and other HEOS speakers.
