• A:Answer The main differences between the two receivers mainly lie in their features. The 970 provides an extra HDMI to connect a projector with a monitor or two monitors, while the 1800 offers Pre-output connectivity. With Pre-Outputs, you can potentially upgrade by adding a Two-Channel amplifier for the front speakers or to Zone two allowing Zone two plus 7.1 function. Additionally, the 1800 has a more advanced power supply and can handle speaker impedance swings better.

Q: QuestionI'm hoping to get some clarification on a response from the Denon Team. Does the US model for the AVR-1800H include the Front Pre-Out connections on the rear or not? I look at the picture on the Denon US website and it shows the Front Pre-Out connections

• A:Answer Hello. Yes - the AVR-X1800H does have a set of pre-outs for the front left and right speakers, as suggested on the Denon US website. You may have otherwise seen a picture on of a 220V AVR-X1800H built for another market, which does not show the same layout on it's rear panel.

• A:Answer Yes, I have a 5.1 setup and this receiver works great. You might need to adjust the levels for the rear speakers; my audyssey setup had them a tad too loud, but otherwise this produces much better sound than my previous Sony receiver.

• A:Answer Hello, We find that Polk Audio, Definitive Technology, and Bowers & Wilkins speakers to pair best with our receivers. Beyond that, it depends on your budget for each brand but this receiver should power a good majority of speakers.

Q: QuestionDoes this receiver support zone 2 wired speakers in another room? We have ceiling speakers in our dining room, that work with our current but outdated Onkyo receiver, which has a designated Zone 2 output.

• A:Answer Hello. Yes - the AVR-X1800H has support for 7 speakers. You can assign the AVR-X1800H to either work with a 7.1 or 7.2 set-up in the Main Zone, or a 5.1 or 5.2 set-up with designated Zone 2 speakers connected also. The AVR-X1800H comes out of the box with pre-assignment for Zone 2 use.

Q: QuestionDoes this AVR have the capability to decode native DSD via HDMI input? My SACD player can send a DSD bitstream (not PCM) to AVR via HDMI if AVR can decode it.

• A:Answer Hello. The AVR-X1800H is not able to receive a native DSD feed via HDMI. That feature begins with our AVR-X3800H, and is available on all our models further up our line of AVRs.

Q: QuestionCan you connect any wireless surround sound system in this unit?

• A:Answer Hello. All surround speakers need to be passive speakers and therefore hard-wired to the AVR-X1800H. Our 'Home' wireless speakers can be used with the AVR-X1800H - unfortunately, they are not able to receive a discrete surround sound feed as they are designed to receive a stereo feed from a 2 channel source in other rooms of your home.

• A:Answer Hello. Unfortunately, the image you speak of is an error, as it represents the AVR-X1800H not built for use in the US. The US model AVR-X1800H has front left and right pre-outs, as well as a coaxial digital input.
