You can do it both ways. The Denon has a switch under the platter that allows you to hook it to a preamp or directly to the aux or phono connections on your device. Note that it is an AV connection only and does not support other connections.

You may need an adapter if the Bose unit has just a 3.5m plug aux input. And you should turn the switch on the turntable to the ON position. This is the built in phono preamp on the turntable. The switch is located under the platter.
