No license or registration is needed due the the weight of the drone( under 250gram ) if you use the battery that comes with the drone. However if you use the extended fly battery it will put the drone over 250 grams and you will need to register the drone to trough an approved registration web site
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes and no, if the intent is to only fly recreationally and you adhere to all the rules in section 44809 no license is needed. However if you plan to fly commercially, including uploading to a monetized social media accounts, you'll need a license. All the information is on the FAA site. Beat way to put it, is you aren't buying a toy, you are buying an unmanned aerial vehicle and you will need the pilot of it and need to know the rules around it.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. If you fly with the base battery in which the drone will weigh 249g and you only plan on flying for recreational purposes then you do not need to register it but still need to follow local and federal laws and ordinances. If you plan on flying commercially you will need a Part 107 certification. If you plan on flying with the intelligent batteries that make the drone heavier than 250g then you will need to register it with the FAA. Depending on your needs you will need to register as a recreational or commercial pilot.
