Hi this is Joe with Dyson, Thank you for your interest in our air multiplier technology. AM08 is our latest pedestal style air multiplier compared to our previous offering the AM03. Dyson sound engineers have worked on reducing the tonality of the sound produced by Dyson Air Multiplier™ fans, by targeting specific frequencies. Noise is not only about the decibel level, but the quality of the sound being produced. The AM03 Dyson Air Multiplier™ fan reached 65dBA on its fastest and most powerful setting whereas our latest desktop fan the AM06 is actually up to 35% quieter due to our improvements to the air loop and implementation of Helmholtz cavities. Helmholtz resonance is the phenomenon of air resonance in a cavity. This catches the sound waves traveling through the machine and bounces them within the cavity, dissipating the sound. Please let us know if you have any additional questions. Best wishes, Joe Dyson Customer Service
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.MY fellow customer, I'd more than suppose the answer to your question is the Dyson model on clearance at a lower price is of those originally marketed, which were almost intolerably noisy. Dyson's newly released models are improved, operating in a considerably smoother and quieter manner. So, I don't know whether the noise would annoy you, and, if not you could obviously save $100 on your purchase. Anyhow, I think that is the answer. Hope I've been of help.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. There are differences in the models--the AM03 (on clearance) has a few different features than its updated model, AM08 ($449.99). According to Dyson, the AM08 has improved air flow and is 35% quieter (http://www.dyson.com/fans/pedestal/am08/am08-pedestal-fan-white-silver.aspx). There is a difference in color between the models (silver vs. white/silver), and the AM08 has the option of setting a sleep timer on the remote.
