• Hello Lori, this is Kelly with Dyson. The gray button on your Dyson Ball Animal, located next to the power button, will disable your machine's brush bar. When your machine is powered on and reclined, the brush bar will automatically be on. If you are vacuuming a more delicate carpet or bare floor surface, you can turn that off to vacuum with just suction power. Best wishes, Kelly Dyson Customer Support
