Yes, you will to adjust the suction by maneuvering the trigger on the handle when vacuuming in carpet especially if the carpet is an area rug (or any carpeting that isn’t permanently stationary.

When vacuuming, you can adjust that. If you carpeting installer recommended to not use a brush bar, you'll want to slow that down as much as possible.
